Cabaret Evening Friday 27th February 2015

"Life is a cabaret ol' chum, come to the cabaret".  So sang Liza Minelli in Jay Allen's version of the 1972 film "Cabaret". While not on the same scale as the film, the Association organized a highly successful cabaret evening on Friday, February 27th, which was thoroughly enjoyed by a rather disappointing attendance of seventy seven members and guests. The success was due to the professionalism of our three virtuosi, namely our own Stuart McKeown, who povided the dance music, Bruce Shearlaw, our bagpipe player and David Vernon, our guest accordionist and comedian.

Bruce opened the show with a rousing bagpipe selection, which was followed by one hour of ceilidh dancing. David Vernon then took over and treated the audience to some wonderful continental accordion playing interspersed with some Chic Murray style jokes and stories.

The tea/coffee interval arrived all too soon and was followed by the drawing of the raffle where a total of £194 was raised. This money will, as usual, be distributed to charity at the appropriate time.

On to the second half, which followed the format of the first but was even better. David Vernon at one point, invited the audience to a singalong but not even Shergar could have kept pace with his super-fast playing. His repartee and jokes were very funny and were greatly appreciated. {I wonder - did the "hairy biker" ever recover?- not to mention "the Swiss old lady"}.  David was given a well deserved encore and gave us a final treat by playing the stirring march "Under the double eagle".

A few final dances took the evening to a close and President Jim Browne closed the proceedings with a vote of thanks to all concerned in any way with the evening's success.

The next event will be a normal Ceilidh dance on Friday 27th March, beginning at 8.00pm, when the band will be the

Lomond Ceilidh Dance Band Trio.
