Monthly Function Dance 29th May 2015

The penultimate event of the 2014/15 season was held in the Commodore Osprey suite on 29th May and took the form of a dance and AGM. Despite the unseasonal weather, ninety members and guests attended the event and from all accounts thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The ladies obviously ignored the age-old advice of “ne’er cast a cloot till May be oot” and brightened the evening with  a variety of colourful dresses for the occasion.

President Jim Browne opened the evening with his customary warm welcome and introduced the band –- The Ewan Galloway Scottish Dance Band Trio, which turned out to be a Dance Band Quartet and which proved to be one of the best bands of the season.

The First half of dancing passed all too quickly and was followed by a short interval   for tea/coffee and the drawing of the raffle,  which raised the excellent sum of £228   for charity.

The hall was quickly cleared for the staging of the AGM during which the new office bearers and committee for season 2015/16 were elected. The full list of elected members will appear on the 2015/16 syllabus in due time.  At this meeting, the retiral of President Jim Browne, Vice President Jim Gray and committee member Susan Browne was announced.  Jim and Susan have served the Association admirably for a considerable time but did not wish to be re-elected. Jim Gray retired from his Vice Presidency but offered himself for re-election as a Committee member. The meeting finished with remarks by the new President John Johnston who was fulsome in his praise of Jim and Susan and expressed his best wishes to them for the future.  No doubt, they will continue to have the Association at heart and will continue to grace the ballroom floor at future events.

The timely finish of the AGM allowed a further two hours of dancing to take place. It was noticeable that the introduction of newer dances, for example, The Edinburgh Mixture and the ever popular Quickstep attracted more dancers than usual – surely an encouraging sign for the future of the Association.

New President John Johnston expressed votes of thanks to the band, hotel staff and all who contributed to a great evening before the evening closed with a fine rendition of “Auld Lang Syne”.

An idea from one of our guests tonight suggested we publish the dance list for the next function at the end of our monthly review....So, keen to follow up on good ideas, the progrmme for Friday 26th June can be found by scrolling down to bottom of this News section....
