OCTOBER   DANCE

30/10/15

On a fine Autumn evening, an excellent number of eighty two members attended the October Ceilidh and Dance in  the Commodore hotel where they danced to the splendid music of Donnie and Di Scottish Dance band Duo. . Donnie reminded us that this year was his twenty eighth at Helensburgh. He and Diane are certainly one of the best bands to have played for us – Long may they continue to do so.

Director Andy Rankin welcomed the dancers and gave a brief resume’ of the evening’s programmed events. Being Halloween, we fully expected to have some witches, warlocks and ghosties in attendance but the nearest we got was two pumpkins on a table. Still, we did have “Trick or Treat”, the treat being the singing of our two guest singers  Kirsteen Grant and Mod gold medalist Iain MacLean.  They gave us two periods of songs and ditties in Gaelic  and English. The Scottish version of the porridge song was particularly humorous. Apparently you can still have a slice of porridge from a drawer in some Scottish homesteads.!!!

Somehow amongst the flurry of events, Iain and Dorothy Yule found time to organise the raffle which raised the magnificent sum of £208. The money will, as usual, be added to the charity fund and distributed in 2016.

All too soon the evening closed  with votes of thanks from the chairman  to the hotel , band and wonderful singers and the singing of the traditional

“Auld lang Syne”

The next event will be a Dance evening on Friday 27th November when the band will be the Steven Carcary Scottish Dance Band Trio.
