Monthly Function Friday 29th April 2016
Featuring Ross MacPherson Scottish Dance Band
Despite a late flourish of winter weather , the Osprey suite was bursting at the seams as a crowd of 105 dancers attended the monthly dance. The number was boosted by a visiting party of 20 Londoners, who joined in some of the better known dances most enthusiastically. The large crowd thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful dance music provided by the Ross MacPherson Scottish Dance Band Trio who turned out be to a quartet, consisting of Ross MacPherson ( 1st accordion) Hector MacFadyen ( 2nd accordion) , Calum MacPhail (fiddle) and Kevin McGlynn( drums).
With the first half of the programme duly completed, tea & coffee was served and the raffle drawn. The raffle realized the sum of £255 which will, in due course, be disbursed to good causes. The time for distributing money over the past year was in fact, at this very dance and the following organisations were presented with the following sums.
- £500 – Dumbarton & District Multiple Sclerosis Society.
- £250 – The vale of Leven Autism and Aspergers Forum.
- £250 – The newly formed Cardross Youth Group.
Representatives of the three organisations were delighted with their gifts and thanked the Association very warmly.
It was a treat to welcome the party of young people from the Cardross youth Group, and look forward to perhaps seeing them again at our future functions..
The dance then continued till 11.30 with most of the company staying till the very end to enjoy the music of the excellent band.
The next dance will be on Friday 27th May when the band will be the Ewan Galloway Dance Band Trio. The Annual General Meeting will be held at some time during the evening, during which the office bearers for the coming season will be elected.
It is perhaps appropriate at this time to announce that one of the present committee, Donnie MacLeod, will be retiring after serving 43 years. He will be sorely missed. We thank him sincerely for his lengthy service and wish him and his wife well as future dancing members.
