Christmas Supper Dance Friday 13th December 2013

Christmas Supper Dance Friday 13th December 2013

This time of year again and our Christmas Supper Dance is becoming more popular every year.

Fully booked with 121 members and guests attending.

Our regular Christmas band, The Charlie Kirkpatrick Scottish Dance Band, started our feet tapping and filled the floor throughout the evening.

As Charlie continually assures us……….We have been the best audience he has had…..tonight!!!

Our raffle did well, raising £292. Thanks as usual go to all who generously donated and all who bought tickets.

A special thanks to Jean Hutton for the Top Raffle Prize which she again donated - a lovely hamper filled with all manner of goodies.

The night would not have been complete without a visit from the ‘Man in the Red Suit’ and we were not disappointed!  Santa, who had an amazing resemblance to our very own Alex Wright appeared on cue and did an excellent job of distributing good cheer, chocolates and managed a kiss from just about every lady present!  (Have to keep an eye on him!)

The meal this year was served buffet style - a departure from the norm as an experiment. Opinion from those present as to its success or otherwise, came out in favour of the new method.

Comments suggested, that although, inevitably, there will always be some of those present who will be served last, at least the hot food was still hot when they received it.

Therefore, it is likely we we will repeat this set up next year.

Overall, it is fair to say, a great night was had by just about all present and we look forward to seeing everyone at our next function - The Hogmanay Cellidh at Geilston on, let me see - oh yes, the 31st December 2013!!!

Featuring The Stuart McKeown Ceilidh Dance Band.

A ticketed event, 9pm till 2am - Doors open at 8pm and bring your own Food and Drink!

Monthly Function 29th November 2013

The regular Monthly Dance took place as usual in the Osprey Suite of the Commodore Hotel.

A fine turnout of just short of 100 members and guests.

Many thanks to all who donated to and purchased tickets for our raffle, which raised £223.00

Music for the evening was provided by the well known Marion Anderson Scottish Dance Band, which kept feet tapping and the floor full throughout.

We have had them at Helensburgh in the past and are sure they will be back again.

Compliments must go to Jim Gray, Susan and Jim Browne who made up and presented a very professional Dance Programme for the evening. Celebrating St Andrews Night, all tables were laid with Tartan and shortbread was provided to add an extra Scottish flavour to the evening.

Our next function will be the Christmas Supper Dance on Friday 13th December, featuring the Charlie Kirkpatrick Scottish Dance Band and, hopefully, the ever popular ‘man in red suit’, Santa Claus!

See you there………….

Ceilidh and Dance Friday 25th October 2013

October Ceilidh Dance

The dance in October was a busy event with over 100 dancers in attendance for the visit of Donnie and Diane. Our Association has been fortunate over the years to secure the services of this talented pair of accordion players and their play resulted in another great evening with the floor only empty while we were entertained by our guest artistes Daryl Lynch and Alanna Isabel Wright. Daryl has been piping in Hogmanay for the Association for several years and opened the event in traditional fashion with a varied selection of music. This was Alanna's first visit to Helensburgh however we hope to see this rising talent back again in the future. Her selection of songs showed off a full range of her musical ability and both our artistes well well received by all present. We are grateful to Alanna for stepping in to fill the gap left when our other singer was struck down with illness and could not appear at the function.

The raffle raised a healthy £240 which will go towards our charity donations next year. Thanks to all who handed in prizes and purchased tickets.

Christmas ticket sales are going well so get your name in for another great night. (£14 for non-members, £12 for members). As always we are hoping that Santa will find time in his busy schedule to drop by!!

Our entertainment at the next function on 29th November will be the ever popular Marian Anderson and her band so if you fancy a good night out come along.

A warm welcome is extended to all.

Monthly Function, 27th September 2013.

At our regular monthly Ceilidh held at the Commodore Hotel there was a treat in store for those not away for the September weekend.  Our numbers were slightly down due to the holiday but the floor was full, dancing to the music of the Iain Muir Scottish Dance Trio. Neil McMillan was on keyboard, Marie Fielden on fiddle and Iain, who hails from Prestwick, on accordion.

With about 75 members and guest present, £188 was raised by the raffle.  Thanks to all who handed in prizes and all that bought tickets.

Christmas may be a while off, but names are being taken for the Christmas Supper Dance on Friday 13th Dec.2013.  This is a ticket only function, (£14 for non-members, £12 for members), so get your request in quick to any member of the committee or at the next dance.

Our next function on 25th Oct is a Ceilidh and Dance with the ever popular Donnie and Diane supplying the music.  Singers for the evening are

Allana Isabel Wright and John McLean, both new to the Highland Association.

A warm welcome is extended to all.
