Monthly Function Friday MAY 27th 2016
The final event of the 2015/16 season was held in the Commodore Osprey suite on 27th May and took the form of a dance and AGM. The weather was finally kind and 74 members and guests attended the event. From all accounts they thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
President John Johnstone opened the evening with his customary warm welcome and introduced the band –- The Ewan Galloway Scottish Dance Band Trio (Bill Ewan on piano, Kyle Innes on drums and Ewan Galloway on accordion) which turned out to be probably the best band of the season. Their brilliant quickstep had some of the guests reminiscing about the Joe Loss evenings at the Glasgow Eglinton Plaza
The first half of dancing was all too quickly reached and was followed by a short interval for tea/coffee and the drawing of the raffle, which raised the excellent sum of £165, which will help towards our annual charity donations.
The hall was quickly cleared for the staging of the AGM during which the new office bearers and committee for season 2016/17 were elected. The full list of elected members will appear on the 2016/17 syllabus in due time. At this meeting, the retiral of committee member Donnie MacLeod was announced.
Donnie has served on the committee for 43 years and has served admirably over that considerable period of time. We wish him well and will no doubt see him and his wife back as dancers. His place will be taken by Mrs Ewan Howison and the remainder of the office bearers will carry on for a further year. The AGM finished with remarks by the Vice President Ian Yule.
The timely finish of the AGM allowed a further two hours of dancing to take place. President John Johnston expressed votes of thanks to the band, hotel staff and all who contributed to a great evening before the evening closed with a fine rendition of “Auld Lang Syne”.
